Google Trends- the social context for your horror
Google Trends is a public web facility of Google which shows how often a particular search-term is entered relative to the total search-volume across various regions of the world, and in various languages. It is Googles way of finding out what the highest trending film is of the day, week, month and year. It keeps track on how often people research anything via Google, the more amount of times different films have been searched means that it is 'trending'.
Above shows how many paranormal films have been trending over the years. As you can see the amount of paranormal films trending has decreased so we decided to challenge conventions and create our own paranormal trailer.
The gore genre wasn't as popular either so it pushed us to decide how to show our killings, by what props to use and the amount of fake blood we need to make and how we are going to use it. Seeing that gore genre was at it's highest in 2007 we researched gore films such as '28 weeks later', 'Alien VS predator' and 'Captivity' to look at their killings and how they did them to inspire us to achieve this.
