Question 2:
How effective is the combination of your main project and ancillary texts?
When creating our media product, discussing branding and ancillary text we wanted this to be the theme throughout our products. To make the product good there needs to be something significant about it in order for people to remember the film/poster or magazine this helps you stand out from the competitors.
The more effective and well known the iconic image is the more popular the movie will be and adds value to your identity. When relating to the Horror genre the brand identity can consist of different varieties of brands which can conclude, props, persona, setting, logo and even the font can be a significant part of your icon and this engages your spectators.

This is the poster from 'The Women In Black' (2012), its significant image is a close up of Daniel Radcliffe's face this suggests he's maybe the victim as he is the main focus on the poster, the dark shadows around his eyes and nose makes him look worried and scared as well. The image in the background could also be significant as its faded/ blended into the background smoke and down into the white title, although its not a clear image and looks mysterious it is still a big impact on the poster. |
This is the iconic image from the film 'Sinister' (2013) although you cant tell who or what it is, its still easily recognised by people and they know what film it is when seeing this. The use of the black for the paint suggests death and mystery, the little girl is wearing white showing innocence and purity this separates the two characters. The background is dull, grey and plain but its made effective by the use of cracks in the corner and made to look like an old room.

Font can be used to enhance the films brand. However, we want to avoid this as we want to keep it as minimalistic and simplistic as possible and didn't want to draw much attention away from the poster image.
'A Nightmare On Elm street' was a massive release in 1985 and the new re-make was 2010. The way that this title has been presented is simple, sophisticated and easy to read, we thought this was a good quality to have on a poster as it doesn't draw your attention away from the main theme. The colour of this poster is the main aspect using the typical horror colours, Red represents anger, danger and blood, the black also represents night time and mystery suggesting that something bad could happen at night.

From this analysis of all three trailers about their main image, title, font and colour this inspired us to create our poster and magazine title as we thought ' A Nightmare on Elm street' was very effective and creative. It also gave us many ideas for our iconic image for the poster and magazine.
The title from our poster and magazine are both in the iconic horror red this is to symbolise the danger and blood that occurs throughout our teaser trailer. We decided to keep them both the same and both have black backgrounds, this was because the red contrasted and stood out well. The black also has a mysterious feeling as to what is hidden in the background.
However for our title in our trailer we still kept with the theme of a black background but instead we changed the colour to white, this was to show the freedom of the victims as it is presented at the end of our trailer.

The iconic image that is followed throughout our poster, magazine and trailer is the smashed glass, this is because it was a significant part of the trailer because it is when Cullen is released as soon as ffions head is smashed against the mirror.
